From September 2020, households in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire are eligible for Government funding towards installing energy efficiency measures.
Most owner-occupied households across England are eligible for a Government grant towards improving the energy efficiency of their home. These grants will be available as long as the funding (£2bn) is available. For many households, the grant will cover the majority — if not all — of the cost of installing these improvements. However, the grant programme is still complicated.
Most households will be eligible for £5,000 towards installing energy efficiency measures. This will typically cover about two thirds of the cost of improvements. In other words, you will still need to contribute a third of the cost. However, if yours is a low-income family receiving income-based or disability benefits, you may be eligible for up to £10,000 towards the cost of improvements, and you won’t need to contribute towards the cost yourself.
Yes. As with most grant schemes, its important that the funding goes towards those able to make the most use of it.
Improvements are split into ‘primary’ and ‘secondary’ measures. You must install a ‘primary’ improvement using the grant before you are able to use the funding towards secondary improvements.
Importantly, for the secondary measures you’ll only be able to claim up to the grant value of the primary measures. The priority with this grant funding is definitely to promote low carbon heating and well-insulated homes.
The Government recommend Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire residents refer to advice from Warm and Well when planning to access grant funding for energy efficiency improvements. In many cases, we are able to listen to your personal circumstances and give you personalised advice on what you should prioritise in your home.
