Adult Social Care Help Desk

The Gloucestershire County Council Adult Social Care Help Desk provides help and guidance about care assessments, care at home, safeguarding adults at risk, protection for people who are unable to make decisions for themselves due to mental health issues and many other social care related issues.

Age UK provide support for over-50s in a number of different ways. This includes help with housework and everyday jobs, day services, help and reassurance when you come home from hospital, computer training, telephone befriending, benefits checking, clubs and activities and a range of other products and services.

Gloucestershire Fire Service can offer a FREE Safe and Well visit to discuss all aspects of home safety including your own health and wellbeing. It may also be possible to have free smoke alarms or other devices fitted by the Community Safety Team.

Gloucestershire Rural Community Council provides a range of products and services throughout Gloucestershire. This includes village and community agents who support people over the age of 50 and can provide face-to-face information and support and offer a signposting services.

Mears Safe at Home

Mears Safe at Home helps those of pensionable age or receiving disability benefit. Mears can give advice and information on repairs and major adaptations such as extensions and level access showers. Their caseworkers will assist with grant applications and fund raising and the advice can include referring to other organisations. Mears provide minor adaptations which can be referred through the Adult Social Care Desk for ramps, grab-rails etc. They also do 'handyman' work for homeowners, including minor plumbing, carpentry, hanging pictures and security.

The Red Cross provides a variety of support and services across Gloucestershire. This includes the loan of medical equipment such as wheelchairs, transport service, refugee services and short term care in the home after an accident or illness.

Social Prescribers

Social prescribing is a way to link you with non-medical activities and opportunities in their community. Your GP or community hospital can refer or signpost you to the Social Prescribing Co-ordinators in your area whose role it is to link you with an appropriate activity or opportunity. In many cases, these activities are provided by the voluntary and community sector.
